1. Who these terms are with

War in World (“the service”) is operated by:

Pavel Novák K Točné 938, Dolní Břežany 25241, Czechia contact@warinworld.app

referred to below as “we”, “us” or “the operator”. The operator is an individual established in the Czech Republic, not a company, and is the seller of the subscription described in §5.

By creating an account or using the service, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use it.

2. What the service is

War in World is a conflict-reporting service, read in a web browser at warinworld.app and app.warinworld.app. It provides:

  • Conflict dossiers — background, contested figures with their sources, and current status for each conflict covered
  • A live feed of events and statements, and a map with conflict zones and geolocated events
  • Indicators — economic series collected daily from the institutions that publish them, and a calendar of dated political events
  • A weekly brief, drawn only from what has already been reported and cited
  • A community where subscribers can post and comment

All of it requires an active subscription. There is no free version and no trial period. What you can do without paying is create an account, and read these terms and the privacy policy.

Content is compiled from published news sources, official statements and humanitarian reporting. Parts of it are drafted with the assistance of automated tools and reviewed before publication.

3. Your account

Age. You must be at least 16 years old to create an account or use the service. This matches privacy policy §12, and is deliberately above the age of 15 that the Czech Republic sets for consent to information-society services — the service reports on armed conflict and is not suitable for younger readers. It does not check your age when you sign up: the limit is a condition of use, and an account we learn belongs to someone under 16 will be deleted.

Registration. You need an email address and a password. You must give an email address you control. You are responsible for keeping your password confidential and for activity under your account.

Your username. You choose a username when you sign up. It is shown on everything you post. It cannot be changed afterwards, so choose it carefully, and do not choose one that identifies you unless you intend to be identified.

One account per person. One person, one account. This is a rule rather than something the service enforces automatically, and we would rather state it plainly than pretend to check it.

Suspension. We may suspend or terminate an account that breaks these terms, in line with §7.

4. The content in the service, and its limits

This section matters more than the rest, so it is written plainly.

The service reports on ongoing armed conflicts. Information about active conflicts is incomplete, disputed and changes quickly. Sides make claims that cannot be independently verified. Figures for casualties and territory are contested, and the service deliberately shows competing claims side by side rather than picking one.

We do not warrant that the content is accurate, complete or current. We take care to cite sources for every claim, and to distinguish what a party has asserted from what has been independently established. That is the standard we work to — it is not a guarantee.

Nothing here is advice. It is not security advice, travel advice, legal advice, financial advice or professional advice of any kind. Do not rely on it to make decisions about your safety or anyone else’s. If you need to know whether somewhere is safe, use your government’s travel advisories and local authorities.

Distances shown are straight-line distances, calculated in your browser. They are not routes and say nothing about whether travel is possible or safe.

Maps and territorial information are approximate. Control is shown by administrative region, based on cited reporting, as of a stated date. It is not a frontline and it is not authoritative. Depiction of any territory, boundary or place name is not a statement of political position on its status.

If we have something wrong about you. If you are named in the service and believe something published about you is inaccurate, write to contact@warinworld.app. Say what is wrong and, if you can, what the correct position is. We will look at it against the source we relied on and, where the criticism is right, correct the item, note the correction, or record your response alongside it. You will get an answer either way.

5. Subscription and payment

What a subscription includes. Everything in §2, for as long as it is active.

Price. Two plans, and you choose which at checkout:

  • $1 per month, renewing monthly.
  • $10 per year, renewing annually. That is two months free against paying monthly.

Both are charged in US dollars and are inclusive of any applicable VAT. Both are the standing price of the plan: there is no introductory rate, no reduced first period, no deadline attached to either, and nothing that becomes more expensive later. Your card issuer may convert the charge to your own currency and may charge you for doing so; that conversion is between you and them.

You can move between the plans in the customer portal (see Cancelling below). A switch takes effect as Stripe applies it, and any difference is prorated by them.

Who you are buying from. The operator named in §1 sells you the subscription directly. Payment is processed by Stripe, which handles the card details; no card number, expiry or security code ever reaches the operator’s own systems.

How you pay. Through Stripe’s hosted checkout, reached from the subscribe screen after you sign in.

Renewal. The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period — monthly or annually, whichever plan you are on — until you cancel it. Your account screen shows which plan you are on and the date the current period ends.

Cancelling. Open Manage subscription on your account screen. It opens Stripe’s customer portal, where you can cancel, change your card and read your invoices. Cancelling stops the next renewal and you keep access until the end of the period you have already paid for.

Deleting your account also cancels your subscription, immediately and in the same action, so you are never charged for a service you can no longer sign in to. That cancellation is immediate rather than at the end of the period: you are giving up whatever is left of the period you have paid for, because you are giving up the account that would have used it.

On the annual plan that can be most of a year. If you have paid for a year and delete your account in month two, you are giving up ten months. If you would rather use what you have paid for, cancel first and delete the account when the period ends. If you delete by mistake, write to contact@warinworld.app: we will refund the unused part of an annual period, calculated pro rata to the day, on request within 30 days of the deletion.

Refunds. You can cancel at any time and keep the access you have paid for, so a subscription never runs longer than the period you last agreed to.

  • We do not refund the unused part of a monthly period you have already been charged for, except where the withdrawal right below or the law requires it.
  • On the annual plan we do refund the unused part, pro rata to the day, if you ask within 30 days of cancelling or deleting your account. A year is long enough that keeping the whole of it after someone has stopped using the service would not be fair, and short enough that we would rather say so here than argue it case by case.
  • We do refund a payment taken in error — a duplicate charge, a charge after you cancelled, or a charge for a period in which the service was substantially unavailable.
  • Where a paid feature is discontinued mid-period, §10 applies.
  • Ask by writing to contact@warinworld.app. Refunds go back to the card that paid.

Nothing here removes any right you have under consumer law.

Your right of withdrawal. As a consumer in the EU you normally have 14 days to withdraw from a distance contract without giving a reason.

Because a subscription gives you the full service immediately, the checkout asks you to agree to two things before you can pay: that we begin providing the service at once, and that you understand you therefore lose your right to withdraw once it has been fully provided. That agreement is a required checkbox — it is not pre-ticked, you cannot pay without it, and the fact that you gave it is recorded against your subscription.

If you did not give that agreement, or you assert the right anyway, write to contact@warinworld.app within 14 days of subscribing and we will refund you. Where the right applies and you have already used part of the period, we may keep a proportionate amount for what you used. On the monthly plan that is a fraction of a dollar and we will not usually bother to deduct it. On the annual plan it is fourteen days out of a year, so the proportion is about 4% and the rest comes back.

Price changes. We may change the price of either plan. A change never affects a period you have already paid for — on the annual plan that means the price you paid stands for the whole year. Before a change applies to your subscription we will email you at least 30 days in advance, saying what the new price is and when it starts, and you can cancel before then and not be charged it.

6. Posting in the community

The community is for subscribers. What you post is yours, and you are responsible for it.

You must not post:

  • content that harasses, threatens or targets another person
  • content that is unlawful, defamatory, or incites violence
  • another person’s personal information — their name, address, workplace, photographs or anything else that identifies them — without their consent
  • graphic imagery or material glorifying violence
  • spam, advertising, or repeated posting of the same material
  • content that infringes someone else’s copyright or other rights
  • deliberate misinformation about a conflict

The community guidelines shown in the service form part of these terms.

Your content stays yours. You keep all rights in what you post. By posting, you grant the operator a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, display and distribute that content within the service, for as long as it remains posted, so that it can be shown to other users. That is the whole of the licence: it does not permit your posts to be used in marketing, quoted in the weekly brief, or reused in any other product. If that ever needs to change, we will ask you rather than re-draft this paragraph.

Deleting your content. You can delete your own posts and comments at any time.

Deleting your account is different: posts and comments you have already written stay in the community, because replies other people wrote to them would otherwise stop making sense. They are detached from your account and relabelled “Deleted account”, so nothing connects them to you. If you want them gone as well, delete them before deleting your account.

This matches privacy policy §7 and the confirmation shown when you delete your account. All three must be kept in step — if the deletion behaviour is ever changed, change all three.

7. Moderation

Content that breaks these terms may be removed, and accounts that repeatedly break them may be restricted or terminated.

Reporting. Anyone can report a post or comment from within the service. Reports are reviewed and acted on. You can also block another account, which hides everything they write from you immediately.

If we remove something you wrote, we will tell you what was removed and which rule it broke.

If you think we got that wrong, reply to contact@warinworld.app and say so. A person — the operator — will look at it again and answer you. There is no separate appeals department, and no automated decision-making is involved in any of this: removals are decided by a human reading the content.

8. Acceptable use

You must not:

  • attempt to access another person’s account or data
  • attempt to circumvent the subscription paywall or any access control
  • scrape, bulk-download or systematically extract the service’s content
  • interfere with its operation, or attempt to overload or disrupt it
  • reverse-engineer it, except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits it and that right cannot be excluded by contract

9. Intellectual property

The service’s software, design, editorial text, and the compilation and arrangement of its content belong to the operator or its licensors.

Underlying facts and source material belong to their respective sources, and every claim cites the source it came from. Quoted statements are reproduced for reporting purposes and remain the words of the person quoted.

The service includes open-source software, and map and font data under their own licences. These are listed in full under Open-source licences on your account screen, and those licences govern those components.

10. Availability, and changes to the service

The service is provided as it is at the time you use it. We do not promise it will be available without interruption, and we may change, suspend or discontinue features.

If a paid feature is discontinued during a period you have paid for, you may cancel and ask for a refund of the unused part of that period, calculated pro rata to the day. Write to contact@warinworld.app. This applies to a feature being withdrawn, not to a temporary outage.

11. Liability

What we do not limit, and cannot. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else the law does not allow to be excluded — including the statutory conformity requirements that apply to digital content and services supplied to consumers in the EU.

Nothing in these terms limits your statutory rights as a consumer. Where anything below conflicts with a right you have by law, the law wins and the rest of this section still stands.

What we do limit. Subject to the two paragraphs above, our total liability to you for all claims arising out of or in connection with these terms or your use of the service, in any twelve-month period, is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in that period and €50.

What the service is not for. §4 says it plainly: this is reporting on armed conflict, it is not advice, and it must not be relied on for decisions about anyone’s safety. We are not liable for a decision of that kind taken on the strength of what you read here.

12. If something goes wrong

Please contact us first at contact@warinworld.app — most things are resolved that way.

Consumer dispute resolution. If you are a consumer in the EU and we cannot resolve a dispute between us, you may take it to out-of-court dispute resolution. The competent body for a Czech trader is:

Česká obchodní inspekce (Czech Trade Inspection Authority) Štěpánská 796/44, 110 00 Praha 1, Czechia https://www.coi.cz — online at https://adr.coi.cz

The European Commission’s online dispute resolution platform is not listed here because it ceased operating in July 2025. Terms that still link to it are out of date.

13. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms, and any dispute arising out of them or out of your use of the service, are governed by the law of the Czech Republic. The courts of the Czech Republic have jurisdiction.

This does not take anything away from you as a consumer. If you are a consumer resident in another EU or EEA country, the choice of Czech law above cannot deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer-law provisions of the country you live in, and you keep the right to bring proceedings in the courts of that country. Where the law of your own country gives you more than Czech law does, that is what applies.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change is material we will update the “last updated” date above and show you a notice the next time you open the service.

If the change affects your paid subscription — the price, what a subscription includes, or how it renews — we will email you at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you do not accept it, cancel before then: you keep access to the end of the period you have paid for and are not charged again.
