Deleting your account

You can delete your War in World account yourself, at any time. You do not need to ask anyone and you do not need to give a reason. Deletion is immediate and cannot be undone.

Delete it yourself

Sign in at app.warinworld.app, open your Account screen, and choose Delete account. You will be asked to confirm. Once you do, the account is removed as the request is processed. There is no waiting period and no scheduled job that finishes it off later.

If you cannot sign in

If you have lost access to your account, write to contact@warinworld.app and ask for it to be deleted. Send the request from the email address the account is registered to. That address is how the request is checked against the account, and a request sent from any other address cannot be acted on, because acting on it would mean deleting an account on a stranger's say-so.

Requests are answered within 30 days of arriving. That is the maximum the GDPR allows rather than a shorter promise: one person reads this mailbox, and a commitment that cannot be kept in a bad week is worse than a longer one that always is. In practice most are dealt with far sooner.

What deletion removes

Your email address and password, your username, your subscription record, your votes, the accounts you had blocked and any blocks against you, the reports you filed, your reading records, and your record of dismissed items. All of it is removed from the database outright.

What stays

Posts and comments you wrote stay in the community. If they went too, every reply other people wrote to them would stop making sense, and those replies are not yours to remove.

They stop belonging to you in any way the system can trace. The link to your account is severed and the username shown on them is overwritten in the database. Where your name was, the app shows Deleted account.

If you would rather they went as well, delete them yourself before you delete the account, or ask at the address above and they will be removed.

What is left that points to you

Nothing. After deletion there is no row anywhere in the service that holds your account identifier, your email address, or your username, including on the posts and comments that remain. This was checked by deleting a real test account that had used every feature and then searching the database for each of those three identifiers in turn. All three returned nothing.

Your subscription, and the one record that survives

Deleting your account cancels your subscription, immediately and in the same action, so you are never charged again for something you can no longer sign in to. The cancellation is immediate rather than at the end of the month, because you are giving up the account that would have used the rest of it. If you would rather use the month you have paid for, cancel first and delete the account when it ends.

The payment record itself survives, at Stripe and in the operator's accounts, for as long as tax law requires a record of a sale to be kept. A deleted account does not delete an invoice, because the law does not permit it to. That record is a transaction, not a profile: it is never used to reassemble anything about you.
